"It was the eyes, I think," he said.

Lying on her stomach, she turned to face him, across the bed. "Hmm?"

"Oh, don't get me wrong, you have a great ass too," he said, playfully smacking it, "but I think it was the eyes that really got me."

She smiled and rolled her eyes, not out of skepticism, but out of insecurity. Her naked skin still glistened with sweat. A few strands of hair were plastered to her forehead. The room smelled of fabric softener and sex.

"But seriously, the first time I saw you... It was last year, remember? I thought you had the most beautiful eyes."

It was like yesterday to her. Sitting in the park. It was about to rain, and the sky just felt charged. He was walking Bailey, his dog... their dog. He sat on the bench next to her and looked into her. It was perfect.

"We should go somewhere," he suggested.

"You mean like, to the dining room?", she teased.

"No, to an island, in the Caribbean. Just you and me. Get away from all this city madness for a while."

She melted and realized that everything was exactly how she wanted it to be.

"I think I'm in love wi--"

She kissed him deeply, cutting him off, pulling him close and climbing onto him.

Bliss.

"It was the eyes, I think," he said.

She turned on her barstool to face the stranger.

"Hmm?"

"Oh, don't get me wrong, you have a great ass too," he said, playfully smacking it, "but I think it was the eyes that really got me."

Her eyes rolled with contempt. This was the second, no, third time tonight. She had been dancing for a while now and had come to expect this sort of thing. That didn't mean she had to like it. She didn't mind the free drinks, though.

"But seriously, the first time I saw you... It was last year, remember? I thought you had the most beautiful eyes."

She didn't remember. She hadn't even been working here last year. Maybe he's been following her from job to job. The thought chilled her, but not much. It was pretty common.

"We should go somewhere," he suggested.

"Let me guess, to your place?" It was practically scripted for her.

"No, to an island, in the Caribbean. Just you and me. Get away from all this city madness for a while."

Oh, now she'd heard everything. This had gone on long enough. She raised her hand to make a familiar gesture, one she used far too often, she thought.

"I think I'm in love wi--"

Security tackled him to the bar, pulling his arms behind him and dragging him away.

She had to get back on stage.

"It was the eyes, I think," he said.

She grinned playfully. "Hmm?"

"Oh, don't get me wrong, you have a great ass too," he said, playfully smacking it, "but I think it was the eyes that really got me."

She rolled her eyes with amusement. They were folding polo shirts for the store's display. Lilac, canary yellow, and cyan: Easter was vomiting on fashion again this year.

"But seriously, the first time I saw you... It was last year, remember? I thought you had the most beautiful eyes."

They had been at a party, and he had just broken up with his last boyfriend over something or other she didn't remember. She wasn't having the best night herself, and they both needed cheering up. They'd been inseparable since.

"We should go somewhere," he suggested.

"I was just thinking we should get Thai for lunch," she started.

"No, to an island, in the Caribbean. Just you and me. Get away from all this city madness for a while."

He was joking, of course. They couldn't even make it to Alabama on a Gap wage. He could always make her laugh though. She knew he would always be there for her.

"But if we left right now, what would you do about Steve?" she asked, smiling.

"I think I'm in love wi--"

A customer interrupted to ask about a the polo shirts he couldn't find right behind him.

She flashed him a smirk, and went back to folding.
